United Nations World Issues Reflection

June 3rd, 2007 by gabrielacarolina in Social Studies · 1 Comment

Think about the presentations and reflect on the projects your classmates presented and the information you listened to. Explain with details and specific information what you learned, what you found interesting, surprising, or shocking about the presentations you heard in class.

Today in class we saw different presentations of the world’s issues. Some presentations were sad like children’s weapons. There are children from 7 and above getting weapons and joining the military where they learn how to kill people, which is a really bad thing. Some only do this so they can have a place to stay and food to eat for me this is a sad reason and a last resort. Also there are refugees and as Elizabeth’s group said there most of Iraq. This country needs help and we must help. Global Marketing is also a world issue. These are a little of the many issues that are happening the world. As my group we presented on a topic that was AIDS/HIV. This disease has killed so many people and has no cure some people even considered this a plague. All this issues are caused form us humans. If we cause this we at least should try to help. The presentations might have opened the eyes of some people. This issues are affecting everyone even children. Children are the future but we are using the children very badly and they are suffering. In conclusion, we are learning of world issues and how can we help even though we are not in a very important organization like the UN.

What would you change to improve your project/presentation if you were to do the assignment again?

If I could change my project I would add music to help attract the attention I would try to put examples of what is AIDS/HIV causing to the world so people can help. Maybe I could add how people die with it. Apart from that I think the project is quite good. Though maybe we could have had a bit more time because my group wanted to add a song but we didn’t have time and we were really busy after school. Though I think the project turned good.

 Initial Blog Posting: http://kaylynn.learnerblogs.org/

  1. What new information has emerged?

The new information that has emerged is that 17 shop houses in Jalan Utama were burned. It doesn’t say what was the cause of the fire but we need to cautious of these things and try not to do things that may cause a fire. This also shows the bond between a father and a daughter as the father of a girl named Eee Ling saved her from being burned.

  1. What did you find interesting about this topic?

I found interesting that this things happen even in this type of houses. It shows that we must be careful. Also, I found interesting that the father of Eee Ling saved her from burning up. It is important to know that these small incidents can kill people.

  1. What did you like about the initial posting?

I liked the part of who is involved how she put it because it shows clearly the people who are involved. Usually I just type it in a paragraph. I like her opinion of  what would I do If I was directly involved. It is a true thing and not a thing that you can only do if you are part of the government or if you are an important person. I like her format too. I think her blog posting is nice.

UN Focus Group Form Question

May 6th, 2007 by gabrielacarolina in Social Studies · No Comments

We had question number 2:

Discuss whether you feel the U.N.’s power should be increased to have enforcement authority over any nation or should it be decreased to only provide humanitarian aid when asked.

I think the UN should have more power. This way there could be more things done for the world. There wouldn’t be as many terrorists because the UN could do things to protect the country from them. There would help the children that have problems and give education to those that don’t have. They might help the countries don’t have war anymore. Right now they don’t have that much power to do that they can only persuade which doesn’t really work. The people that think that the UN doesn’t really do anything might support and listen to the UN. The UN should receive power but not a lot to be able to overthrow the country. The UN is a good organization that helps people and needs more power to be able to do more things.

This is a map of Manchester.

1.      What is the issue?

The issue is that a 12 year old girl has been shot in the head at her house in Manchester, England. The weapon used was a powerful weapon. This happened at 7:30 p.m. Now a 16 year old is being question as he is a suspect of the gun shooting. The girl died in the hospital. Her father survived and said that the weapon was a powerful one. Although he doesn’t remember who was the gun shooter. This shows that the world today is really dangerous. This happened in a house, showing that this things can happen anywhere and everyone must be careful. We need to do this because we are living in a dangerous world.

2.      Who is involved?

The family of the girl is involved because they just lost a loved one. Also they are going to be frightened because this can happen again. The 16 year old suspect is involved because if he is the gun shooter then he will go to jail. The police are involved because they are trying to see who did this.

3.      Who is affected and how?

The family of the girls is affected because someone of their family died. The suspect is affected because he might go to jail. The police is affected because they really need to find the gun shooter.

4.      What would you do if you were directly involved?

If I were directly involved I would try to ask people to help figure who the gun shooter is because this person might do it again. Also I would make posters saying that everyone should be careful because this could happen to anyone. The poster might prevent this happening and also people could be aware of their surroundings.

Famous Egyptians Reflection

April 24th, 2007 by gabrielacarolina in Social Studies · No Comments

Reflection

I thought this class was interesting with all the speeches. Some of the speeches were funny.  While I herd things I found that some people were related to my person. Example, Maya had Hatshepsut which was my evil step mother. The websites I read were of how she was really evil. However, in her paper she said that it was not evil, which was a real different thing of what I had read. I found that the speeches were well done. I learned in detail of the different gods and important people. I learned that Nefertiti did great things because of her beauty. If I could change my speech I would make it more interesting and maybe asking more questions. I would also make my costume more resistant so this time the hat won’t brake. In conclusion, I think this assignment was fun because we learned a lot from listening to different ‘people’ from Egypt.

Famous Egyptians Speech

Thutmose III Speech

Is it possible to suffer a lot that some people don’t even know if you are going to survive and then you have a lot of success? I didn’t have the choice of believing because that happened to me. I had a hard childhood and some people may call my life miserable, but even though I had some incidents in my life I went over this. I did great things for my people and was known as the sixth pharaoh of Egypt. I suffered at first because of my evil stepmother, Hatshepsut.  I ruled for almost 54 years. I ruled from 1479 B.C to 1425 B.C. I made Egypt bigger and did monuments for the gods that people and I worshipped.

I had a great life as a pharaoh and all my suffering had a reward because I had great success in my ruling. My parents died when I was young at that time they were the pharaohs. Although I was supposed to get the crown I was too young to rule so, I got a stepmother. She was supposed to help me rule, but instead she took my crown. She then called herself the pharaoh which was not true. I then decided to go to the army. Later on in my life I learned how to read and write, which was not mastered by all the pharaohs. I then decided to study to become a priest to god Among.  All the princes had to bow and pay tribute to me to continue ruling. I kept moving on until it was time for Hatshepsut to die and I would get my crown back.

To make my land bigger I had help from 17 different campaigns.  Campaigns two, three, and four mostly helped me go to tours to Syria and Canaan to collect tribute. Campaigns five, six, and seven helped me conquer Syria. Campaign eight helped me conquer Mitanni. I conquered from Syria to the fourth cataract of the Nile. I never stopped reaching my goal which was to control a lot for Egypt. I stopped when I died.

I built many incredible things for my people and some things for me. I built a temple to the goddess Satet so people can go to pray to her; also, for Satet to have a place to be prayed. I build many cities for people to live including Karnak. I also build many monuments so people can see things and remember some people. I then built the obelisk as a symbol of Ra. I built a sanctuary for goddess Hathor. I always had time to build things for the gods, people, and myself.

Nothing stopped me not even my suffering. The only thing that did stop me was death I kept doing what I had to do until I died. My body now lies in the Valley of the Kings. I died in year 54. I became one of the greatest rulers in Egypt. After I died, my son Amonhotep II became the next ruler. He did good things, but the things that I did for Egypt can’t be replaced.

Initial Blog Posting

http://michael6.learnerblogs.org/

1. What new information has emerged?

The new information that has emerged ids the things that North Korea wants to give up on the nuclear weapons. North Korea wants a lot of fuel and electricity. Bush can’t afford all of these things. Bush is scared that the negotiation fails.

2. What did you find interesting about this topic?

What I found interesting about this topic is that people do crazy stuff to get what they want. I thought that the way that North Korea gets is things is interesting because most countries don’t do these kind of things.

3. What did you like about the initial blog posting?

What I liked about the initial blog posting is the pictures, and the format. He put pictures that showed what the congress had been like. Also he put a picture of the people in North Korea and how it seems that they agree to do this. I liked how his paragraphs were short and they showed the main idea. Finally, I liked how he linked hard words to the definitions.

Refelction

February 13th, 2007 by gabrielacarolina in Africa · wikispace · Social Studies · No Comments

What would you change about the final product (the wiki you created) if you were to do the assignment again?

If I were to do the wiki again I would not change most of the things. I would change the way the wiki looks and try to put like a theme. Also I would change the way it’s arranged. I would change the order of the information and images. Finally, I would change the way the information is written. I would change it to a nicer format ant try the logos match the information.

Look at some of the other wikis from any class and find a few that you think are done exceptionally well. Tell me the name of the emempire and the block, and then explain what you like about their wiki.

I liked the Songhai wiki from Block E. I like the way it looks. It is very nice and very colorful. It has all the requirements. It even has recrecommendations for god websites to go to. I also liked Ghana. I liked it because it looks really professional. There where things that they added like like the little intro besides the links. The images that they put in the wiki where nice too. Finally, I liked Kongo Kingdom from block D. I liked hohow most of the pages there where useful websites. Also I liked the how everything is organized. It is neat and the format is the same.

Reflection of Ancient Africa Wiki

February 8th, 2007 by gabrielacarolina in Africa · wikispace · Social Studies · No Comments

1. What did you learn from this task?

I learned about history of ancient Zimbabwe. I learned about it by the research we had to do. Also I learned how to use noodletools to site your sources. I can use this in other subjects too. I also learned that you can use buttons in wikispaces.

2. Did you find this difficult or easy? Why?

I found this easy because I had done it in other classes before. However finding the research wasn’t really easy because there isn’t really much information about ancient Zimbabwe. In total I found this task pretty easy.

3. What would you change about the process you went through to complete the wiki if you were to do the assignment again?

I would change the amount of time I spend researching and research more. Also I would change the order I did the task. So I wouldn’t waist time. I would put first the important things like information and images. Later I would concentrate on buttons and banner. I think those are the only things I would change.
